Primal Farms started in 2022 in Sanford, North Carolina with a passion for Scottish Highland cattle and a commitment to raising them the right way — on open pasture, with quality genetics at the forefront of everything we do.
We never knew Primal Farms would grow this fast. What began with a few acres and a dream has become a dedicated Highland operation focused on breeding, genetics, and producing the finest grass-fed beef in the region.
Every animal on our farm is raised with intention. We prioritize temperament, conformation, and pedigree — building a herd that represents the best of the Highland breed.
About the Breed →The Breed
Highlands are one of the oldest registered breeds in the world. Their double coat and natural hardiness let them thrive in any climate — from Scottish moors to North Carolina pastures.
Highland beef is naturally lean, richly marbled, and lower in cholesterol than commercial breeds. The slow maturation on grass produces a flavor profile you won't find in any grocery store.
Despite their impressive horns, Highlands are among the gentlest cattle breeds. They're known for being docile, curious, and easy to handle — perfect for small farms and families.
We focus on registered bloodlines with proven pedigrees. Every breeding decision is made with conformation, color, horn set, and temperament in mind.
Highlands are natural browsers and grazers. They improve pasture quality, require less supplemental feed, and their lighter frame is gentler on soil than commercial breeds.
Their thick double coat means no expensive winter housing. Highlands calve easily, raise vigorous calves, and require minimal veterinary intervention compared to other breeds.

With Highland genetics being the top priority for our farm, we've carefully built a fold of registered Scottish Highland cattle. Each animal is selected for conformation, color, temperament, and pedigree.
We offer cattle for sale throughout the year — bulls, bred cows, heifers, and calves. Every animal comes with full registration papers and health records. Inquire about current availability.
